GIRLS ROCK TECH was first launched in the summer of 2012 as a 2-year pilot program at the BLACK GIRLS ROCK! Queens Camp for Leadership and Excellence. The program was later launched as its own platform in 2014.
GIRLS ROCK TECH! offers after-school programs for STEM development through music, media and digital technologies. Participants learn to edit and produce music, media, and related software programs through rigorous age appropriate computer science and digital technology courses. Instruction is reinforced by field trips to innovative STEM offices, labs and headquarters. In addition, the desire to study STEM and enter STEM fields is nurtured longitudinally through dynamic mentorship from successful women in STEM, academic support, and a cohort of peer allies who journey through the program together.
BLACK GIRLS ROCK! Inc. is 501(c)3 non-profit youth empowerment and mentoring organization established to promote the arts for young women of color, as well as to encourage dialogue and analysis of the ways women of color are portrayed in the media.
